Forum 2: Studio Culture: Sustaining Studio Education in a Climate of Change
The climate in higher education is under constant change. The requirement for students to pay fees, plus the desire to widen access to universities means that we can no longer expect students to work normal hours within the design studio. As a result, the traditional design studio may no longer be the location for serious design activity. Furthermore, in recent years the range of issues architecture students are expected to consider during their studies has increased to include areas such as climate change, health and safety and accessibility. What is perceived by some to be an already full curriculum needs to be further adjusted.
This conference forum seeks a discussion on how we might respond to these changes; without losing what many value in studio learning and teaching. Papers are invited that explore new approaches and methods or question existing values, proposing new paradigms that can account for the changes.Forum Leaders: Andy Roberts, CEBE and Allan Haines, The Concrete Centre
